Retainers in Edmond, Oklahoma
At Nanda Orthodontics we offer a variety of retainers to help keep your teeth straight. The most common retainers include Hawley, Vivera, and clear overlay retainer. Retainers hold teeth in their new positions after “active” orthodontic treatment is completed. This allows the newly formed bone to harden around the teeth. Wearing retainers as instructed is the key to maintaining the success of orthodontic treatment. We provide orthodontic retainer treatment for patients in Edmond and the OKC metro area. Patients may be advised to wear retainers full-time for the first six months after “active” treatment ends, with subsequent wear time reduced to night-time only. Types of Retainers
Clear Removable Retainer
Retainers gently guide your teeth into a position where the upper and lower sets are even, straight and align with each other. Clear overlay retainers maintain the intended position following orthodontic treatment, all while providing minor corrections to slightly misaligned teeth if needed.
Bonded Wire Retainers
A bonded retainer is a very thin, hidden piece of wire that is attached to the back of the teeth.
The Hawley appliance is one of the oldest types of retainers used post-treatment. A removable retainer, it’s made of a combination of plastic and metal that is molded custom to fit your mouth.
A mouthguard can prevent serious injuries such as broken teeth, jaw fractures, cerebral hemorrhage and neck injuries by helping to avoid situations where the lower jaw gets jammed into the upper jaw.
